We’ve moved to Jira
First up: an admin announcement. After a few years of using ClickUp, we noticed the extra platform was causing gaps in communication across teams. So, we’ve migrated all the old tickets to a dedicated Backpack Design Jira board. This follows the same workflow but lets us track tasks once they go to Engineering. We can also tag and include anyone in the company now.
Search for ‘Backpack Design Requests’ in Confluence for the link.
New components
Info banner
The long-awaited info banner has been released on web replacing our old alert banner. An overview and usage will follow very soon.
Section header
The section header is now available for every platform.
New documentation
Agreed ontology 🤝
Tokens → Atoms and Molecules → Organisms → Templates.
As part of rationalising what we name everything, we’ve created a structure that works for both Product and Product Design and is also agreed by Engineering. There’s more on this to come.
Search ‘marketplace functional requirements’ in Confluence to find out more.
👏 Shoutout to Giovanni for leading this.
What’s in progress 👩🎨
Badges
Badges have undergone style changes that are currently being run as an experiment. If they prove successful, these styles will become our default for badges.
👏 Shoutout to Luca, Kami, Clare and Maryam for collaborating, and to Devito squad for making the changes.
New components in Beta 🚧
Icon and label
We’ve brought back an oldie started by Pete in Product Design. Lots of research went into our type scale and icons – this simple Figma component takes the guesswork out of spacing.
👏 Thanks Pete for doing all the up-front work on this.
Rating bar
Using styling from the progress bar we've created a dedicated rating bar. This is only available in one size with optional scoring properties.
Figma to Engineering hot links 🔥
We’ve added links to every Figma component directly to the documents for Engineering. If you’re looking at a design, select a layer and then hit the link icon within the Properties tab. Simple.
👏 Thanks Ana from Aragog for manually adding every link.
